Kennedy

For those of you who know Jack Beil, this musician sounds like a sick love child between Jack and Mickey Avalon.  Kennedy (appropriately his first name is Jack) is straight outta Thousand Oaks and has been on the scene since 1999.  Common themes in his music are drinking cheap wine, popping prescription pills, having copious amounts of sex, and karate.

Fun fact:  Jack Kennedy was formerly the guitarist for the Silversun Pickups.  Good on ya for leaving!  Otherwise we wouldn't have tasty licks like K.E.N.N.E.D.Y. and Karate.  Enjoy!

They recently released their sixth full length mix-tape that is sure to entertain with some killer tracks on it, featured below. Also, if you want to check out THI for yourself you can find their complete works on thehoodinternet.com. You can also download the separated track version from their website.

Drake feat. The Weeknd - Crew Love (Love Thy Brother Remix)

This song has been a fav of mine for a minute now. I decided that now I am back in the posting game I need to get this track out there. Especially for those of you who haven't heard it. The Weeknd and Drake brought their Toronto brotherhood together to create this track, which is pretty solid. However, Love Thy Brother took this track to the next level and gave it a more poppy feel that is a lot more fun than the original.

For those of you who don't know who The Weeknd is, get ta know. He's an rapper/r&b singer based out of Toronto. He has been blowing up the underground scene lately with all his music for free at http://the-weeknd.com/. Here's a lil somethin to introduce you.

Punks Jump Up feat Dave1 - Mr. Overtime (Gigamesh Remix)

This track is AWESOME! I have been missing out on some good 80's electrofunk tracks and this is exactly what the dr. ordered. Punks Jump Up has teamed up with Chromeo's Dave1 to produce a great track, which was taken to the next level by Gigamesh. Giga really hits home with the synthed-out funk that helped him make a name for himself with Mike Posner's track cooler than me. He has clearly taken him style to new levels and hopefully we can get a few more summer bangers outta him in the coming months.

Punks Jump Up – Mister Overtime ( Ft. Dave 1) (Gigamesh Remix)

Trails and Ways - Nunca

Coming straight outta Oakland is the band Trails and Ways. They were formed back in summer 2011 and are self described as bossanova dream pop. It may be a hard genre to imagine, but just pop this track on for a little musical education. The track has a nice summer feel that is perfect for the upcoming beach filled activities that I have planned for the summer. If you're looking for a lil somethin to take your mind of the daily grind I highly recommend this track.

Ibrahim Ferrer - Ay Candela (Henry Krinkle Refix)

It's been a long time since I last posted on here. This was mainly due to Czech bureaucracy and..... pure laziness. More importantly, I'm back and with some new beats. I had a great Easter weekend over here in the Czech Rep. It started off by rented a car for the weekend and headed out to some spa towns for some much needed R&R. First stop: Marianske Lazne. A cool little town known for it's shitty tasting water with curative effects.

After Marianske Lazne, we were in our way to Frantiskovy Lazne for some of that water you can actually dip your toes in, but we got a little sidetracked in Cheb. We found a little place off the highway that had go-carts...... So obviously we had to stop. This track was home to the Czceh boarder champion Micheal Schumacher.

After seeing Mike destroy the track at speeds up to 40 mph, we were ready to go. Not even the freezing temperatures and random snow flurries could stop us. The go-carting was amazing, even though I totally let down my mentor Mike by getting lapped. With our hands and faces frozen we decided it was time to finally make our way to Frantiskovy Lazne.

Frantiskovy Lazne is a awesome little spa towns that were Beethoven used to live back in the day. After my visit there I could see why. The city is a well preserved gem that has some amazing architecture, not to mention a putt-putt golf course.

After relaxing in the spa and cutting elementary school kids in the line for the water slide, it was time to head home. Finally, to put the cherry on top we went out for some burgers and beers to end the day. It was a much needed adventure and escape from the city. It also made me remember how good it is to cruise around with friends listening to some tunes, which re-inspired me get back up to date with the blog.  So here are some freshies to start it off.

Kanye West - Theraflu

This song blew up real quick. If you haven't heard it yet hear it here first! DJ Khaled kind of reminds me of the old school DJ's who just shout shit out like "yea!" or "get 'em up!" or "skeet skeet skeet!"

Metronomy

Before we get into the music you might want to check out David Choe's artwork (as seen above). He's getting a lot of buzz lately after his Facebook stock was valued at $200 million. Apparently he painted one of the hallways in Facebook's old office and instead of being paid in money they offered him stock. I heard this guy on a Howard Stern interview and he is wild. You can hear the interview on YouTube (this link takes you to part 1, there are 6 parts).

On to the music! Metronomy is a band from the other side of the pond. I can't tell if they're being serious in their music videos or if this is just British humo(u)r; either way I think the video below is hilarious. These guys also try their hand in remixes. You can see a list of the songs they've remixed here.

Geographer

I finally sat down and listened to Geographer...well worth my time. You probably know them for their song Kites. So much more to these guys! They've got a good upbeat but mellow oxymoronic sound. I'm waiting patiently for some good remixes. **Bonus side note -- the above video was actually filmed in outer space!!**

Skrillex Devils Den

Another banger from skrillly. I also like some dark shit, so when devil comes out, I get excited. So have fun with this track and listen to it for a lil bit till it drops.

Skrillex & Wolfgang Gartner - The Devil's Den

Red Cafe Shot Caller

I dont know much about this red cafe guy. But he opens this track up and kills it. A lot of other big guys in this track also having great parts. Its got a nice touch of a notorious big beat in the middle when diddy come in. Great song real addicting to listen to.

Skrillex - Breakin' A Sweat (Zedd Remix)

DDDamn, that's good! Skrillex came up with a straight up banger. This track is exactly what I've been needing. I have been in a real mellow mood lately and have been looking for a track with some energy. Skrillex the 23 year old LA native was been on point throughout 2011 and it looks like he is coming strong in 2012 too. Also, gotta give some props to Zedd for kicking this track into high gear. I am looking forward to bumping this track in my headphones as I cruise around the city this week. Enjoy!

EtMusiquePourTous Repost - Le Miel du Mois by Steph Lund: Janvier 2012

As I have said before and will say again. I am a huge fan of EtMusiquePourTous, especially their Le Miel du Mois. This months mix-tape is well fitted to my mood as of late. A great feeling for sure, but I am not sure what to do with my free weekends......maybe party? Well if that's the case, imma need to find some more fresh music to share and rock out to. But in the meantime I plan to pop some svetle pivo and jam out to EMPT's sweet new mix-tape.

Miike Snow – Paddling Out

Legendary Swedish indie electro group Miike Snow has been doin' work lately. The trio consists of front man Andrew Wyatt and the production talent of Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg. This song and Devils Work are the first releases off of Miike Snow's new album. Some people are disappointed with the lack of epicness on this track compared to Devils Work. However, I think that this track has more mass appeal due to its infectious dance beat. The group decided to release this track on their Soundcloud account yesterday during the internet black-out to protest SOPA. The retarded legislation that could shut down this music blog and most others. But until that happens, let's just keep enjoying the free music! Happy To You by miikesnow

[Electronic] Die Antwoord - I Fink U Freeky

Die Antwoord is a pretty wild group hailing from South Africa. The group consists of Ninja, who is looks like something out of the movie Gummo and Yo-Landie Vi$$er who brings the darker side of sex appeal to the group. The groups sound is a crazy mix of 90s style rave music with a gritty South African flow. The group has been getting a lot of notoriety lately from the global blog community and have been blowing up the rap-rave scene. The group clearly has a sense of humor wrapped under their harden exterior as you can tell from the video above and their video Enter the Ninja. Also, in an article they recently did with Spin Magazine, the group said that they really wanted to work with Celine Dion. In a quote from the article Yo-Landie states "Think Twice is Ninja's favorite song". However, don't be fooled. These guys are pretty intense and videos like Fok Julle Naaiers make sure you don't forget. Now here is Die Antwoord's latest track, I Fink U Freeky. This track is off their new album Ten$ion set to come out in Feb, 2012. It's definitely something i'm looking forward too.

Gift of Gab – Protocol ft. Samantha Kravitz

gift of gab [Hip Hop] Gift of Gab – Protocol ft. Samantha Kravitz

Bay Area legend Gift of Gab (or the other half of Blackalicious) released the single Protocol this week of his upcoming album The Next Logical Progression that's due in late March via Quantum Projects. Definitely something use over here at the IBF will be looking forward too.

This is the kind of beat that just makes me feel good. It has that old do wop beat and a real simple flow that reminds me of a warm summer's day. GOB brings his typical on point flow to this track while Sam Kravits brings a classic soul feel to the track. This track is a refreshing divergence from the hip-hop that has been coming my way these days. Sometimes simpler is better and GOB proves it.

Mexicans with Guns - Highway to Hell (Ridin Dirty 7" Mix)

Here's a little oldie but goodie for you folks our there. Mexicans with Guns is an experimental multi-genre music producer and laptop musician from San Antonio, Texas. However it you want to get a better idea of what MWG is all about you should check out his bio on Myspace which states:

".. Not much is known about MEXICANS WITH GUNS. Yeah there are the rumors, supposed teenage bandito ...others say he made money hustling suckers in the pool halls. Some people claim to have partied with Mexicans with Guns, drinking tequila shots until the early morning...downing bowls of salsa on a dare. The truth is that most of his history is unaccounted for...kind of a modern day Pancho Villa. What we do know is that this year has been on full blast for Mexicans with Guns. In no time at all, he has gone from selling fruit cups and mixtapes from the back of his El Camino to tearing up SXSW to being touted by URB Magazine as one of the Next 100 Artists. And what does Mexicans with Guns exactly sound like? Imagine listening to a dubstep remix of an NWA track while doing a drive by if you just drank a bunch of lean while visiting the dirty south. Ahh good times. His remixes of Faunts, Animal Collective, and Jogger to name a few, have been heating up the interweb and dance floor alike. MwG most recent release on Exponential Records, Nuts and Bongos, finds him collaborating with the MC’s Cerebral Vortex and Spoek Mathambo (Adult Swim / African Swim) and features the remix talents of Cobra Krames, Ninjasonik, Robot Koch of Jahcoozi, and Raziek (GTO). What’s next for Mexicans with Guns? Avoid la migra (immigration), fight for the cause ( still currently looking for one), and make mas beats that go hard."

Let's hope that he hold true to his promises and keeps making mas beats for us the fans out there. Be sure to watch out for those Mexicans W Guns!

Pogo – Jaaam (The Fresh Prince Remix)

WOW, is the first thing that comes to mind after watching this video. It is outta control. Pogo does an impressive job at sampling the beats, vocals and video. This video will definitely bring back some nostalgia to the days before the Fresh Prince turned into Big Willie. Pogo has also showcased his video/music editing skills with his Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remix. I'm looking forward to see what other crazy things he has in store for 2012.

Sigur Ros – Saeglopur (ENiGMA Remix)

Last night when I was riding home on the tram this track finally come onto my Ipod. I have had this track for a few days before it ended up coming up on my playlist and it couldn't have been at a better time. As the track started, the first snows of the year were reaching the city of  Prague and the sounds of silence were slowly penetrating it's streets. As my tram sliced through the brisk winter air I sat in awe as the track progressed. The tracks has a beautiful melodic flow was giving me chills beyond anything the below 0 temperatures could.  The track definitely isn't what I was expecting and  is not one that I wouldn't think to remix into a dubstep track. However, Enigma really creates a great mellow atmosphere that you can really chill-out to. Something I highly recommend for these dark snowy days. Sigur Ross also has some other great mash-ups, including a mix with Mobb Deep featured below. Enjoy!

Grum – Can’t Shake This Feeling

Grum's 'I can't shake this feeling' is an instant classic. I love how Grum always has funky beats with a pop focus. He is a DJ based out of Scotland . He released his first album in 2010 and has been making noise ever since.  Grum's music reminds me of Daft Punk's 'Discovery' album as well as Mylo's 'Destroy Rock and Roll' album. Also, I highly recommend checking out his track Through the Night.

Los Amigos Invisibles - Cuchi Cuchi

I was lucky enough to get lost at Tour de Fat in Denver this past summer and stumble (literally) into Los Amigos Invisibles. And let me tell ya...they really turned me on to their communist Venezuelan ways by handing out a healthy and equal dose of funk to the common man. Case and point:

"In the year 3000 the Bolivar republic of Venezuela launched its first expedition on the Arepa 3000 spaceship. The crew, Los Amigos Invisibles, were in charge of rescuing all the babes that had been kidnapped by the aliens. Due to spilled salsa on the main engines of the Arepa 3000, the ship got swallowed up by a black hole that took them to another world."

Enjoy the video and VIVA LA HUGO!

Somebody That I Used to Know - Walk off the Earth (Gotye - Cover)

So the other day my buddy sent me this cover of Gotye's 'Somebody that I used to know' by the Canadian indie band Walk Off the Earth. I have to say it's fantastic. I almost thought it was fake for a second. Click (HERE) and judge for yourself! WOTE really does a great job with this cover and definitely gets some points for teamwork. It  looks like the product of a family with a lot of kids that are forced to share a cool toy. Maybe this is what would have happened if the Partridge family only had one guitar. As a little bonus I also added a remix from Rey & Kjavik.

Kilian Martin: A Skate Regeneration

Skateboarding sure has come a long way since I started back in 1998. Back in the day if someone could do a 360 flip, they were hot shit. Now to go pro, you pretty much have to be the most fearless and stylish dude on the block. It's become a serious big business with companies like MTV having two or more shows about skateboarders as well as multi-million dollar events being held in their honor. With the commercialization of the sport broadening daily, it's sometimes hard to imagine where the true essence of the sport really comes from.

Fortunate for us, dudes like these are pushing the sport in a different direction. These guys have been able to think outside of the box of just going bigger, harder and faster and transpose the sport into an art-form, a true medium of expression. This isn't only true for the skaters themselves. Video directors have also played a pivotal role in this paradigm shift. Directors like the infamous Spike Jonze who started his career with Blind's 'Video Days' and the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' video and then progressed to the legendary videos 'Yeah Right!' and 'Fully Flared'. He was the first to really integrate a truly interesting and immersible audio visual experience as demonstrated in 'Yeah Right'. But enough of the chit-chat, check out these videos and enjoy what some creative minds have brought to the sport.

Monarchy – You Don’t Want To Dance With Me (ft. Britt Love)

So it's been a little bit since my last post, but this year has already been a busy one for me. Don't worry, I am back and ready to get back on the post circuit. 2012, in a 6 days, has already gave way to some great music. Monarchy's release of 'You don't want to dace with me' is a perfect example. The track track starts off with a style reminiscent to the Crash Test Dummies, but then quickly picks up the pace and transforms into a more modern electronic pop anthem. I hope this track is a sign of things to come from Monarchy. At least one thing is certain, this track is going to light up as we head further into the new year.
